Test your knowledge about disability and disability income insurance.
Try these true/false questions?
  1. One out of seventeen people ages 35 to 65 can expect to become disabled for five years or longer.
  2. Disability is the cause of nearly 50% of all home foreclosures.
  3. To qualify for total disability insurance benefits, you cannot be gainfully employed.
  4. You may purchase enough DI coverage to fully replace your normal monthly earnings in case you are totally disabled.

(Scroll down to see the correct answers.)
Your self-employed clients could be in a world of hurt should illness or accident make earning a regular income impossible, even for a short time.  The same could be true of employees with inadequate or no employer-provided DI coverage.  You really should discuss this with your clients, and that means acquiring enough knowledge to help them.
Do you know which carriers:
  • will provide coverage for which occupations?
  • offer the best rates?
  • have the highest/lowest maximum issue limits?
  • guarantee that premiums will never increase?
  • offer the option to purchase long-term care insurance sometime in the future regardless of health conditions?
We know.  Give us a call - 269.983.0633

 Answers:

  1. False. The answer is actually about one out of seven people.
  2. True.
  3. False. Many policies allow you to work in an occupation that is different from your usual occupation and still receive full benefits.  This is a standard feature in some policies and a rider in others.
  4. False. The total benefits from all your DI policies combined cannot equal more than approximately 2/3 of your normal monthly earnings (and often is limited to less than 1/2 in higher income brackets)
